This document, also known as a living will, is a legal form in which an adult declares what medical care they would like to receive if they find themselves in a situation where they cannot express their wishes. Regional legislation varies regarding the form in which this document is granted, although it is recommended to do so in a public deed, for the guarantee of its authenticity and unalterability, and the advantage of its preservation in the notarial protocol.
The document can include the medical treatments that one wishes or does not wish to receive, as well as the designation of one or more representatives to act as interlocutors with the medical team. It can also state whether or not one wishes to donate organs.
